The Midwest Chimney Safety Council is dedicated to providing education on chimney, fireplace, and wood and gas heating appliances to the public and industry professionals.  We offer classes to the public on the correct operation and maintenance of wood and gas burning appliances and chimneys, and seminars and workshops to professional chimney sweeps, chimney builders, masons, home inspectors, fire investigators, HVAC installers, and Hearth appliance installers. Most of our classes for professionals are approved for CEU credits from the CSIA, ASHI, MHA, and NFI.   

HOMEOWNER TIP:  
 
The National Fire Protection Association recommends an annual inspection of gas furnace, gas boiler, wood and gas-burning fireplaces and wood stoves by a professional chimney sweep and sweeping as necessary (after 1/4" of creosote has accumulated on the flue walls.  See more information on our homeowner tips page.

Learn how to apply bricks and man-made stone finishing.  We will finish both ovens that were built last year at this location.  These are good skills to have when remodeling fireplaces or finishing prefab chimney exteriors. Hands-on. Instructor:

Baking in a Wood-Fired Oven
Learn from a master baker how to make and bake different types of breads in a wood-fired brick oven. Hands-on

Cooking in a Wood-Fired Oven
MCSC board members will share their favorite recipes for Turkey, Ham, side dishes, and appetizers and cooking methods for wood-fired ovens. All meals for the workshop will be made on site and cooked in the brick oven and clay ovens.  This will be good information to share with your clients. Hands-on.

Flashing Class
Learn how to install flashing around a chimney. Instructor: Greg Boss.
